About Stambaugh
Township
Stambaugh Township is the home to a few large
recreational businesses and many small family
owned businesses cover the township. Logging
operations are present and farming continues.
History
Stambaugh Township was formed in 1886, originally part of Iron River
Township. The first Township Supervisor was W.T. Carpenter. The Township
seat and most of the original population was located in the former
Stambaugh City location. In the years to follow, this property was assumed
and annexed by Stambaugh City. Roads were built to the outlying districts
and homesteads where logging and farming were present. Many of the
districts have kept their names through the years. The Baumgartner District,
Saunders, Pentoga and South Brule are still used. Many families still occupy
the same properties. At one time, there were more than eight schools in the
township. Stambaugh Township is full of history and colorful people.
